Istanbul Gedik University Students Share Their Erasmus+ Experiences

Students of Istanbul Gedik University had the opportunity to gain detailed information about the Erasmus+ programme and hear firsthand experiences from students who have participated in the programme.

During the online event held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, students who previously took part in Erasmus+ mobility shared their personal journeys.

Participants had the chance to learn about academic and social life in the countries and universities they visited, the challenges they faced, and valuable tips for a successful mobility experience. Additionally, a Q&A session was held, allowing attendees to ask questions about topics they were curious about.

As part of the 74th anniversary of the Agricultural University of Tirana, the 5th International Conference on Agriculture and Life Sciences (ICOALS V) will be held from 3–5 November 2025 in Tirana, Albania.

Meeting with Dr. Christina Kontogoulidou, Head of the International Relations Office, University of Piraeus, Greece

During his visit to Thessaloniki, Yücel Kamar, International Relations Director and Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator, held a meeting with Dr. Christina Kontogoulidou, Vice President of the European Association of Erasmus Coordinators (EAEC) and Head of the International Relations Office at the University of Piraeus.

The meeting focused on potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions, particularly within the scope of Erasmus+ Key Action 1 (KA1) and Key Action 2 (KA2) projects. Both parties discussed strategies for developing joint initiatives and strengthening academic cooperation through mobility and project-based partnerships.

As a result of the discussions, a mutual agreement was reached to initiate an Erasmus+ KA131 inter-institutional agreement, with the aim of launching student and staff mobility programs between the two universities in the upcoming academic period.

On June 26, 2025, as part of his visit to Thessaloniki for the ERACON 2025 Conference, Yücel Kamar, International Relations Director and Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator, visited International Hellenic University (IHU), a prominent higher education institution based in Thessaloniki, Greece.

During the visit, Mr. Kamar held a bilateral meeting Alexander Campus of the IHU with Mr.Gerasimos Spanos and other members from European and International Programmes Department of IHU. The discussions focused on exploring prospective collaboration opportunities between the two universities, particularly within the framework of Erasmus+ mobility programs and potential joint initiatives under Key Action 1 & (KA1 & KA2).

The meeting also allowed for the exchange of best practices in internationalization strategies and Erasmus+ implementation, setting the groundwork for future academic cooperation and project-based partnerships.

Yücel Kamar, International Relations Director and Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator, represented our university at the annual conference (ERACON 2025) of the European Association of Erasmus Coordinators (EAEC), held in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 23 to 26 June 2025.

During the three-day event, Kamar had the opportunity to promote our university, explore potential collaborations in the field of Erasmus+ with participating institutions, and engage in idea exchange concerning new Erasmus+ KA2 project proposals.

Azerbaijan Sports Academy has announced that it will organize an international summer school titled “A Step Toward Sustainable Development” in Guba, Azerbaijan, from August 3 to 9, 2025.

The program foresees the participation of up to 4 students from our university along with 1 academic coordinator accompanying them. Candidates must be nominated and submitted to the Office of International Relations and Erasmus Coordination by July 11, 2025.

Designed with an interdisciplinary approach to sustainable development, this summer school aims to provide academic contributions as well as promote international student interaction.

We Attended The Online Visa Information Session Organized By The Hungarian Embassy

An online information session, attended by Hazal Karataş from the Erasmus Office of Istanbul Gedik University, was held by the Hungarian embassy on july 2, 2025. The session targeted students who will participate in long-term mobility programs in Hungary under the erasmus+ scheme.

During the program, general information about Hungary was shared, and the key points to consider in educational visa applications were discussed in detail. Participants were provided with comprehensive guidance on how to properly use the appointment system, the document submission process, and the procedures to follow on the interview day.

It was emphasized that students must select the correct location and type of procedure when booking their visa appointments in order to avoid any mistakes during the application process.

At the end of the session, participants were given the opportunity to ask questions about the topics they were curious about and receive detailed answers; so, they were able to gain a clearer understanding and deeper insight into these topics.

Research Assistant Zeynep Uyanıker from the Faculty of Health Sciences Participated in the International Week at the University of Foggia

Zeynep Uyanıker, a research assistant from our university's Faculty of Health Sciences, successfully completed an Erasmus+ Staff Training Mobility between 16–20 June 2025 at the International Erasmus Week hosted by the University of Foggia, Italy.

The event took place in the coastal town of Vieste, located on the Adriatic coast and known for its natural beauty and preserved historical charm. The international week brought together numerous academic and administrative staff from various countries. Within the scope of the program, Research Assistant Uyanıker actively participated in workshops, presentations, and group discussions, gaining valuable insights into European practices in her field.

In addition to the training activities, the program provided a platform for rich intercultural and academic exchange. Engaging with participants from different countries contributed to the development of intercultural communication skills and the strengthening of international academic networks. The University of Foggia's strong commitment to internationalization and the Erasmus+ network once again emphasized the importance of inter-university cooperation.

The program also included cultural and social activities, such as guided tours through the historic streets of Vieste, local dinner events, and seaside cultural gatherings, offering participants the opportunity to experience the region’s cultural heritage first-hand.

Research Assistant Zeynep Uyanıker stated that this mobility contributed significantly to both her academic and personal development and that the international experiences she gained will positively reflect on her future work at our university.

International Relations Director and Erasmus Coordinator, Lecturer Yücel Kamar, participated in the online "Erasmus+ Key Action 2 (KA2) Cooperation Partnerships 2024 R2/R3 Project Management Information Meeting" held on June 24, 2025, organized by the Turkish National Agency for applicants awarded grants under KA2 projects.

During the meeting, a general overview of KA210/KA220 project types was provided, along with presentations on the Grant Agreement and the Turna Portal. Two different project holders delivered detailed presentations on the implementation of their respective projects. The meeting concluded with an introduction to the Beneficiary Module and the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, followed by a Q&A session.

OUR UNIVERSITY'S ERASMUS OFFICE STAFF MEMBER HAZAL KARATAŞ SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED HER MOBILITY IN NORTH MACEDONIA WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE ERASMUS+ STAFF TRAINING MOBILITY PROGRAM

Our institution’s Erasmus Office staff member, Hazal Karataş, completed her mobility at the International University of Struga in North Macedonia between June 23rd and 27th within the scope of the Erasmus+ Staff Training Mobility program. During this period, Hazal Karataş received comprehensive training on international educational collaborations, the current practices of the Erasmus+ program, and staff training processes.

The training covered detailed information about mobility opportunities within the Erasmus+ program. Additionally, interacting with participants from different countries, exchanging knowledge, and sharing experiences contributed to expanding our institution’s international cooperation network.

Our institution aims to maximize the benefits offered by the Erasmus+ program by actively encouraging participation in international projects. Such training and mobility activities enable our academic and administrative staff to gain knowledge and experience in line with international standards.

Our institution will continue to support similar programs and strengthen international cooperation activities.

FATLUM BAUTA FROM THE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF STRUGA IN NORTH MACEDONIA VISITED OUR INSTITUTION WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE ERASMUS+ STAFF TEACHING MOBILITY PROGRAM

Our university hosted Fatlum Bauta, an academic staff member from the Department of Sciences at the International University of Struga in North Macedonia, within the scope of the Erasmus+ Staff Teaching Mobility program, between June 10th and 17th.

During the visit, Fatlum Bauta met with our academic staff to share experiences and knowledge. In the meetings held as part of the program, comprehensive evaluations were made regarding the educational approaches and academic processes of both institutions. This visit under the Erasmus+ program presented a great opportunity to enhance sustainable cooperation between the two institutions.

Our institution will continue to support similar projects aimed at improving the quality of education and establishing strong international collaborations.

During the visit, Lecturer Kamar held meetings with academic staff from the Faculty of Engineering who had previously visited our university. He also met with Prof. Liviu-Marius Cirtîna, Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator of the host university, and Erasmus+ Office representatives Maria Modoran and Andreea Rădescu. The meetings focused on exploring opportunities for Erasmus+ collaboration and future joint Erasmus+ KA2 projects.

Between June 23–27, 2025, a delegation of five academic staff members from Todor Kableshkov University of Transport in Sofia, Bulgaria, visited Istanbul Gedik University as part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility programme.

During their stay, the delegation visited various academic and administrative units of our university and received information about our faculties, laboratories, and campus facilities. The meetings covered key topics such as increasing student and staff exchanges, co-designing academic modules, developing short-term programmes, and exploring opportunities for collaboration in EU-funded projects.

The visit strengthened the ties between the two institutions and opened new doors for meaningful academic and cultural collaboration.

Representatives from Durban University of Technology (DUT), located in the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa, visited our university on 20 June 2025.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Metin Toptaş from the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Dr. Deniz Akçay Balcı from the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Dr. Çağla Pınarlı from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Research Assistant Ebrar Şevval Coşkun from the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Dr. Kubilay Atalay from the Faculty of Engineering, and from the Office of External Relations and Erasmus Coordination, Institutional Coordinator Lecturer Yücel Kamar and Erasmus Officer İlayda Önder.

During the meeting, fruitful discussions were held on potential areas of cooperation between the two institutions. Topics such as student and staff exchange, joint research projects, and sustainability-oriented initiatives were particularly emphasized.

Istanbul Gedik University Participated in the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2025

Istanbul Gedik University took part in the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2025, held in Istanbul between 16–19 June 2025 in collaboration with the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

Our university was represented by Research Assistant Pınar Eylem Yılmaz from the Sustainability Office, Institutional Erasmus Coordinator Lecturer Yücel Kamar, and Erasmus officers İlayda Önder and Hazal Karataş from the Office of External Relations and Erasmus Coordination.

The congress welcomed more than 5,000 international participants from over 100 countries and covered key themes such as "Cities and Communities," "Digital Innovation," "Education, Gender and Inequalities," and "Energy and Industry." The event also contributed significantly to the international visibility of Turkish higher education institutions.

Throughout the congress, Istanbul Gedik University welcomed visitors at its stand and engaged in fruitful discussions with various institutions as part of its commitment to internationalization.

First Meeting Held for Our Erasmus+ Project “Green Entrepreneurship for Youth”

Within the scope of the Erasmus+ KA220-YOU project titled “Green Entrepreneurship for Youth,” coordinated by Istanbul Gedik University and funded by the Turkish National Agency, the first online meeting was successfully held in 20/06/2025.

During the meeting, the international project partners had the opportunity to get to know each other and discussed in detail the roadmap and planned activities to be carried out throughout the project. Key topics such as project management, task distribution, and communication strategies were also addressed.

As Istanbul Gedik University, we are excited about the positive impact this project is expected to have on young people in line with the goals of sustainable development.

A delegation of seven academic staff members from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania, visited our university between 16 and 20 June within the scope of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Programme.

During their visit, the delegation held meetings with Dr. Ahmet Kubilay Atalay and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haydar Şahşin from the Mechatronics Engineering Programme, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Egemen Sulukan and Dr. Kıvanç Ali Anıl, from the Mechanical Engineering Programme, Dr. Ozan Ateş, Dr. Bestem Esi, and Dr. Fahriye Enda Tolon from the Industrial Engineering Programme. The guests also met with Lecturer Yücel Kamar, Institutional Erasmus Coordinator, and Erasmus Officers İlayda Önder and Hazal Karataş from the Office of External Relations and Erasmus Coordination.

A Life-Changing Erasmus+ Experience in Montenegro: Reflections from Darline Philippe

Darline Philippe, one of our Erasmus+ trainees, recently completed her internship at the Faculty of Economics and Law of Bar, Adriatic University Montenegro, and shared her thoughts on this transformative experience:

"Being able to complete my internship at the Faculty of Economics and Law in Bar was a true privilege. Not only did I challenge myself and enhance my professional skills, but I also had the chance to immerse myself in Montenegro’s rich cultural diversity.

Through this experience, I gained new perspectives on how different cultures observe, interpret, and address social issues.

I can truly say: ‘This was a life-changing experience for me.’"

As part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Programme, Electrical Engineer Galina Cherneva, Civil and Infrastructure Engineer Stoyna Kostova, and Education Specialist Hristina Uzunova from Todor Kableshkov University of Transport in Sofia, Bulgaria, visited our university between 16 and 20 June.

During their visit, the guests held meetings with Dr. Hasan Bozkurt Nazilli, Head of the Civil Engineering Department and Coordinator of the MSc in Civil Engineering, Dr. Ahmet Kubilay Atalay from the Mechatronics Engineering Programme, Seda Birkan, Director of the Continuing Education Center, as well as Lecturer Yücel Kamar, International Relations and Erasmus Institutional Coordinator, and Hazal Karataş, Erasmus Officer from the Office of External Relations and Erasmus Coordination.

The meetings focused on exploring potential academic and administrative collaborations.

Darline Philippe, a student in the Associate Degree Program in ForeignTrade (English), has successfully completed her Erasmus+ Internship Mobility in Adriatik Bar University, Montenegro, from 11/0472025 to 14/06/2025.

Within the scope of the Erasmus+ Internship Programme, Darline had the opportunity to gain valuable international work experience in her field while developing her intercultural communication skills and strengthening her professional network.

As Istanbul Gedik University, we strongly support our students in taking part in international learning and training experiences, and we are proud to see them represent our university abroad with success and dedication.

As part of the 2024–2025 Spring Term Erasmus+ Student Study Mobility Program, Istanbul Gedik University had the pleasure of hosting Sevim Gökçe Musacalı and Ceren Toksoy from International Vision University, North Macedonia.

During their stay, the students carried out their study mobilities at the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Computer Engineering. Throughout the mobility period, they actively engaged in the academic and cultural life of our university, gaining valuable international academic experience while contributing to intercultural exchange on campus.

As Istanbul Gedik University, we proudly congratulate Diana Sailau, who joined our university from Kazakhstan within the scope of the 2024-2025 spring term Bilateral Exchange Programs. Diana Sailau successfully completed her study mobility at our Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechatronics Engineering, as part of the bilateral exchange program from International Information Technology University in Kazakhstan.

During this period, Diana actively participated in the academic programs and gained international educational experience, supporting both her personal and academic development.

CIFP Fadura LHII Delegation Visits Our University Under the Scope of Erasmus+ Staff Mobilities

As part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Training, Xabier Ateka (Erasmus Coordinator), Joseba Alvarez, and Egoitz Arrizabalaga from CIFP Fadura LHII in Spain, specializing in the fields of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, visited our university between May 26–30, 2025.

During their visit, the delegation visited Gedik Vocational School and met with Vice Directors Öğr. Gör. Erdem Cevher and Öğr. Gör. Esra Demirci Ecevit, Mechatronics Program Coordinator Dr. Gözde Konuk Ege, and Welding Technology Program Coordinator Dr. Ozan Çoban. The guests had the opportunity to tour and experience the laboratories and facilities within the Vocational School.

Following the Vocational School visit, the delegation proceeded to the Faculty of Engineering, where they held a meeting with Prof. Dr. Savaş Dilibal (Head of the Mechatronics Engineering Department), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haydar Şahin (Vice Head), and Dr. Ahmet Kubilay Atalay. The meeting focused on exploring potential areas for academic collaboration between the two institutions.

We hope that this kind of mutual academic exchange will lead to more concrete collaborations in the near future.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Redvan Ghasemlounia, Faculty Member at the Faculty of Engineering and Director of the Graduate School at Istanbul Gedik University, participated in the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Teaching at Politécnico de Leiria, located in Leiria, Portugal.

During the visit, he delivered a lecture to Civil Engineering students titled “Design of Hydraulic Structures and a Simulation on Sediment Dispersion in Flood Inflows into Lakes.” The session drew significant interest from the students, presenting engineering approaches to sediment transport and in-lake dispersion through a hands-on simulation.

In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ghasemlounia met with academic staff at Politécnico de Leiria to explore possible joint projects and academic collaborations, especially in the areas of hydraulic engineering, water resources management, and environmental modeling.

This visit not only contributes to Istanbul Gedik University’s internationalization strategy but also helps to further strengthen institutional ties with European higher education institutions.

Hatice Baygut, a student of our Occupational Health and Safety Master's with Thesis program, is carrying out her Erasmus+ student internship mobility at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, located in Rome, Italy, between 31 May – 31 July 2025.

This experience will provide her with an excellent opportunity to enhance both her academic knowledge and practical skills in her field, adding an international dimension to her professional development.

Prof. Dr. Savaş Dilibal, Head of the Mechatronics Engineering Department at our university, delivered lectures on robotics at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN) in Romania between May 20–24, within the scope of the Erasmus+ Staff Teaching Mobility Program.

During his visit, he held meetings with Vice-Rector Prof. Daniela Popescu regarding potential bilateral collaborations under the Erasmus+ program. He also engaged in discussions with faculty members at the university about possible joint project collaborations.

DAFFODIL INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ASIA-PACIFIC SUMMER PROGRAM (APSP) 2025 ANNOUNCEMENT

Daffodil International University (DIU), located in Bangladesh, will organize the Asia-Pacific Summer Program (APSP) 2025 from July 19 to July 27, 2025. The program will offer participants a rich academic curriculum alongside various social and cultural activities. The program includes field trips, industry visits, team projects, presentations, cultural interaction events, and local heritage tours. This provides students the opportunity to enhance their academic knowledge while gaining international experience through cultural exchange.

MADALINA ROBERTA TATARU AND MARIA MADALINA SGINDAR COMPLETED THEIR STUDENT INTERNSHIP MOBILITY UNDER THE ERASMUS PROGRAM AT OUR INSTITUTION

Between 01/04/2025 and 30/05/2025, Madalina Roberta Tataru and Maria Madalina Sgindar completed a successful and productive internship period within the scope of the Erasmus student internship mobility at our institution.

Madalina Roberta Tataru carried out her internship at the Office of International Relations and Erasmus Coordination at Gedik University, where she improved her experience in the field of international relations. Maria Madalina Sgindar continued her internship under the supervision of Dr. Seyed Houtan Shahidi, a faculty member in the Coaching Education department.

The students expressed their satisfaction with the experiences they gained and with the hospitality of our institution. We were also very pleased to host them.

Dr. Şerife Esra Dinçer from the Department of Software Engineering carried out a teaching activity at John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin between 19.05.2025 and 23.05.2025 within the scope of Erasmus teaching mobility.

During this academic visit conducted under the Erasmus program, Dr. Lecturer Dinçer delivered courses related to her field and shared knowledge and experience with the host institution.

This visit, which contributed to the development of academic collaborations, was productive for both our institution and the host university.

Aysun Narmanlı, who works at our Continuing Education Application and Research Center, participated in a staff training mobility at IES Virgen de la Paz in Spain between May 26-30, 2025.

Within the scope of this program, Aysun Narmanlı had the opportunity to observe the operations of the host institution firsthand and visited various organizations and companies collaborating with them to gain insights into international practices.

This mobility has laid the groundwork for a strong cooperation between our institution and IES Virgen de la Paz.

Nermin Škretović from University Adriatic Bar in Montenegro visited Gedik University between 17 May - 23 May 2025 as part of the staff mobility for receiving education within the scope of Erasmus+ program.

During the visit, discussions were held on inter-institutional cooperation opportunities, good practice sharing and academic development. Nermin Škretović had the opportunity to get to know the academic units and administrative structures of our university.

This visit, which contributes to increasing mutual experience sharing and institutional dialogue, is of great importance in terms of preparing the ground for future joint projects and mobility.
